Once upon a time, there were three bears who lived together in a little house in the middle of a great forest. The first bear was a great big Father Bear, the second was a middle-sized Mother Bear, and the third was a tiny little Baby Bear. Each bear had its own bowl for porridge, its own chair to sit on, and its own bed to sleep in. The Father Bear’s bowl was large and deep, his chair was tall and sturdy, and his bed was wide and soft. The Mother Bear’s bowl was medium-sized, her chair was comfortable, and her bed was just right for her. The Baby Bear’s bowl was small and delicate, his chair was tiny, and his bed was snug and cosy. Every morning, the bears ate porridge for breakfast, and one morning the porridge was too hot to eat, so they decided to go for a walk in the forest while it cooled down.
While the bears were away, a little girl named Goldilocks came wandering through the forest. She had curly golden hair and was very curious. When she saw the bears’ house, she stopped and looked at it. The door was not locked, so she knocked, but no one answered. She knocked again, and still no one came. Being a curious child, she pushed the door open and stepped inside. The first thing she saw was the three bowls of porridge on the table. She was hungry from her walk, so she tasted the porridge from the great big bowl, but it was too hot. Then she tasted the porridge from the middle-sized bowl, but it was too cold. Finally, she tasted the porridge from the tiny little bowl, and it was just right, so she ate it all up.
After eating, Goldilocks felt tired and wanted to sit down. She saw three chairs near the fireplace. First, she tried the great big chair, but it was too high and hard. Then she tried the middle-sized chair, but it was too wide and soft. Finally, she tried the tiny little chair, and it was just right, but as she sat down, the chair broke into pieces. Goldilocks was upset, but she was also very sleepy, so she went upstairs to find a bed. There were three beds in the bedroom. She tried the great big bed, but it was too hard. Then she tried the middle-sized bed, but it was too soft. Finally, she tried the tiny little bed, and it was just right, so she lay down and fell fast asleep.
Finally, she tasted the porridge from the tiny little bowl, and it was just right, so she ate it all up.
Soon the three bears returned from their walk. They were hungry and ready for breakfast. The Father Bear looked at his bowl and growled, “Someone has been eating my porridge!” The Mother Bear looked at her bowl and said, “Someone has been eating my porridge!” Then the Baby Bear looked at his bowl and cried, “Someone has been eating my porridge, and they have eaten it all up!” The bears were puzzled and looked around the room. The Father Bear saw his chair and growled, “Someone has been sitting in my chair!” The Mother Bear saw her chair and said, “Someone has been sitting in my chair!” Then the Baby Bear saw his chair in pieces and cried, “Someone has been sitting in my chair, and they have broken it all to pieces!”
The bears went upstairs to check the bedroom. The Father Bear looked at his bed and growled, “Someone has been sleeping in my bed!” The Mother Bear looked at her bed and said, “Someone has been sleeping in my bed!” Then the Baby Bear looked at his bed and cried, “Someone has been sleeping in my bed, and here she is!” Goldilocks woke up with a start. When she saw the three bears staring at her, she was so frightened that she jumped out of the window and ran all the way home. She never went into the bears’ house again. And the three bears, after fixing the little chair and making fresh porridge, lived happily ever after in their little house in the forest.
