Sir James Matthew Barrie was a Scottish novelist and playwright, best remembered today as the creator of Peter Pan. Born in Scotland and educated at the University of Edinburgh, he moved to London where he developed a successful career as a novelist and playwright, with 'Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up' (1904) becoming his most enduring legacy.
