he General Assembly of Connecticut passed an Actearly in January, 1774, erecting all the territory withinher charter limits from the river Delaware to a line fif-teen miles west of the Susquehanna into a town, to becalled Westmoreland, with all the corporate powers ofother towns in the Colony, attaching it to the County ofLitchfield. It extended from the Lehigh north to TiogaPoint, now Athens. The section above mentioned wasthe Wyoming Valley country, which was claimed by Con-necticut and “settled by people from Connecticut. It wasthe scene of the Indian massacre in 1778.
