f you want to signal the operator, movethe hook slowly up and down. A rapid move-ment does not signal the operator. The sameapplies to the movable bar of the hand set.If your telephone has a crank for ringing,you should place the receiver on the hook,turn the crank and remove the receiver. If you have a party line telephone, be care-ful not to lift the receiver while the telephoneis ringing. If you do, the other telephone onthe line will also ring. RIGHTTransmission of conversations carried on inthe two incorrect examples is only one-tenthto one-fiftieth as good as in the others.
