Table 19 lists the corresponding means for thetwo upper one-half ability levels and Table 20 summarizes the sameinformation for the two lower one-half ability levels. Appendix Acontains individual student scores on each of the five measures. Perusal of Tables 18, 19, and 20 cast doubt upon the possibilityof finding significant differences between the two groups or betweenthe two ability levels of the two groups on the various criterion measures in all but one or two instances. Even though the differences 69 anal 57 between the two groups on the initial measures were not great, thereis the possibility that these differences account for the apparent lackof significant differences on the criterion measures. The analysis of covariance technique is designed to answer the question.
