He hadbeen a pacifist, and as his views werenot popular had retired from publicAS life. ** The League of Nations ”’ was thetitle of Farl Grey’s talk and he spoke to an immenseand appreci iative audience. He strongly approved ofwhat was being done to win the war and expressedfirmly his views upon the League of Nations. That ev ening a dinner was given for us at Hotel Savoyby the English Authors’ Club with headquarters inLondon. Many of the world’s great writers attended,among them, Sir Anthony Hope and E. Phillips Oppen-heim, judges and other leading officers of the BritishGovernment. There were no formal speeches but eachperson was asked to speak, sing or tell a story. It was athoroughly enjoyable affair. Next day, Friday, was fixed for a dinner given us byRt. Honorable Arthur J.
