hen he started to run the twelfth time, he had notgone far when he gave out. He rolled and turned overon his back, and begged not to be killed. He fell overon his face and heard something crack. He thought itwas one of his teeth. But it was only a turkey featherwhich had stuck up nearly straight, and level with hishead, back of his right eye. At first when he looked back, he had thought thatsomeone was standing behind him ready to strike him.
